I'm wondering which engines would have used a vented oil cap on the rocker cover? I'm trying to get my '63 1098cg set up decently, oil leaks abound and it seems like the drip tube really works......Have after market aluminum cover with hose to Weber air filter, current cap doesn't appear to be vented.
 
fwiw, my 74 did not have a vented cap. but when I replaced it I used a vented cap, it may have to do with emissions.
 
All the early caps were vented.

very small drill will make a nice vent.
 
I checked the original cap on the stock rocker cover. (PO had installed polished aluminum). OEM cap is vented but is not interchangeable with fancy schmancy alumunium cover. So, in the ongoing struggle to reduce oil drippings, I'm going to try a vented cap but it seems I can't just buy one from Moss or VB, at least neither list one for the after market covers as being vented. Are these at all universal?
BTW
Anyone care to explain how a vented cap would change things? If the tube from the rocker to the air cleaner is supposed to pull a vacuum wouldn't a vented cap defeat that?
 
the early 70s cars the vent on the top had a tube to a canister that would clean the air

If it is a solid engine I would think the air has to get in somehow.
