Gotta say the census is a smoke screen. This year is too recent for Sal's name to get on a list of jury duty, 2000 is too long. I wouldn't be surprised if the family claimed Sal as a dependent on their 2008 taxes.

Why is 2000 too long...had several cats live over 10 years...
Domestic shorthairs can have a pretty long life

Greg,

you may be right there..Been called to jury duty once in about 25 years...and was in Iraq when that happened...

Well, if the case involved a cat burglar, wouldn't Sal be an ideal choice - jury of peers and all that?! :jester:

Depends...is this a case of the burglar being a cat, or of a cat being burgled???

So, if that's true, will the IRS audit Sal?

Well, they're trying to tax cow farts. I can see Sal as the sole proprietor of a rodent extermination business. "Well Mr. Sal, our records show you have received monies in the form of room and board far exceeding the cost of ridding the house of those 3 mice. We're gonna have to attach a lien on your share of the property you reside at."

I was called up for county court jury duty recently - In my state (PA), counties use PA department of transportation drivers registration lists to randomly select jurors (although it says other lists may be used).
Massachusetts does it from a "master juror list" made up from yearly submitted "street lists" provided by each city and town. https://www.mass.gov/courts/sjc/jury-system-b.html
Also saw where Federal court jurors are selected from voters lists and sometimes drivers lists.

You can add boat registration to that list, at least in California. My uncle never lived here, but he asked if I could register his boat (he was docked in San Diego at the time, heading to Australia). He had pasted away when I received a summons for him. I replied that he was never a state resident and that he was deceased. Year later, I got another summons for him. I sent the form back with a note that he was still dead and I didn't think his condition was likely to change.

Well it didn't seem to stop some voters either, Greg. Memme th' buer-o-crats figger'd yer uncle was one of those guys?

Well, he was still on the list of the living.
