By golly it just keeps getting deeper and deeper, doesn't it? First they tell us the fireworks were faked, now I read that some little girl that was singing in the opening ceremonies was faked too.

Some people have a difficult time realizing that the Chinese really showed the world!
But, if those reports are true, did they?

I wouldn't know, I didn't watch it. I just think it's a riot reading about how much was manipulated for TV viewers. Not a lot different than any other "hollywood" production.

The LED displays for some number of those event venues were made here in St. Petersburg by a company I'm familiar with. The Chinese know who to call when they need "RazzleDazzle"... :smirk:

Showed us what they wanted us to see. The most impressive parts, the synchronization of all the human performers, should not really suprise anyone. Large scale human effort is a long standing Chinese hallmark.

Yup. It doesn't have anything to do with China (in my book) either. Anybody, anywhere can do this these days. When you go see a movie you know (or should know) that the special effects are fake, and these days are computer generated. When you see something on NBC presented as "recorded live" you expect that it wasn't created in a studio.

Turns out part of the opening ceremony took a year to digital create. Totally fake. Nicely done I guess, but fake:

<span style="font-style: italic">"What they did not realise was that what they were watching was in fact computer graphics, meticulously created over a period of months and inserted into the coverage electronically at exactly the right moment."</span>

I've just learned that Chinese opera and live cat skinning seem to have a lot in common...

 :jester:
