Yrs ago I made the decision that my BE was mine and I'd make do with what I had. Well, after I'd replaced the tac tran twice, and the third one shelled, I'd scraped a couple later spridgets, so I installed a modern tac. I really liked the fact it didn't bounce so I also installed a later speedo. The resolution to the smaller gauge is to paint the exterior of the glass to the size of the gauge. Purist, its ok, it works. I marveled that the speedo was correct to the 14" tire mod with the 5 speed tranny and the 3.7 pumpkin. After the cold of this last winter, when I drove the BE, The speedo was showing about 10 mph fast. Then it started to stick. Anyway, the box with the gauges had another, and the replacement worked. The replacement gauge doesn't reset on the trip od, so I guess I need to figure out how to clean the misbehaving one and replace. Life is good.

Hey if all else fails the Digital Sigma Bicycle Speedo works great, lasts a long time, and is an interesting engineering project I did on Bugsy. Regular speedo works but got tired of inaccurate and always bouncing around. I mounted the digital readout on top of the dash, attached to the mirror mount, with a little bracket and it is right at sight level.Total project < $40.00 including mods needed to make it last.

That would be in the way of the boost guage for the SC. It is mounted with the screw to the surround by the mirror. Like I said, tis my car. I did get to use the new cig lighter outlet with the gps and see that the speedo was close, it is. I installeed a fuse block for the first wire that cames off the battey, the two seat heaters (they are really nice, do you need them, no, but they are nice) and the cig outlet.

It's not that difficult to take apart a Bugeye or later speedometer and clean it. This should stop any bouncing that is caused by the speedo itself; of course, misbehavior can be caused by the cable, too. I've done several at this point, plus a mechanical tach.

See https://pcbunn.cacr.caltech.edu/jjb/TR6/speedo.pdf.

I check the calibration with an electric motor and optical tachometer. It's virtually impossible to recalibrate these things, unfortunately, but at least you can check accuracy.
