Old tech diesel - empty

Hello All

just discovered my Austin FX4 (1965 London black cab) is completely empty (no diesel in the tank)
This all due to a faulty fuel gauge and fuel line leak.

My question - how would I restart it? I imagine it is not just a case of filling up and cranking for 10 minutes - do I have to prime the pump? Fill the fuel filter? something else?

Appreciate your help

regards

Paul

You have to completely bleed the fuel system. If you have a lever on the fuel supply pump, you can use that but I usually just crank the engine. As I recall, there is a hex head bleeder on the fuel filter. Bleed that first until you have no bubbles. Then there is a bleeder on the pump. I think that is also a hex. That needs to be free of bubbles too. Finally, not in the manual, but what I do is crank the fuel line nut on each of the injectors while cranking the engine. Tighten the nuts when you see a bit of a leak. If all fails, repeat. These can be quite reluctant but they will start eventually.

Tom,

Surprisingly easy - just bled the system and she started straight up - appreciate the pointers

cheers
