Old guy, but new to the forum...

Nice car. Thinking you are starting two new spridget fans. Don't know who is having more fun with your car though? Good for the girls.

Haha, lets add a white one for fun.

Is that a AH steering wheel center insignia?

Yes it is. Should find an MG version. Moss sells similar wheels and hubs. I think mine is the 4 spoke Moto Lita , which brings a pretty penny. Be nice to have the right logo on it.
Thanks for the dash picture. I'm very tempted to redo an original dash (I do have one) and get the switches and gauges in the right places but that slab of oak looks sorta pretty on there. Still debating cutting a hole for the radio, wife says don't touch it, but she doesn't ride in it with me much anyway.

I built a console in front of the gear shift, didn't want to cut the hole in the dash.

Pictures?
I started designing one. Was getting too complicated. All summer I just had the head sitting in front of the shifter, black duct taped to the hump, classy, no, functional yes. I'd like to hang it just under the dash in front of the shifter but cutting a hole in the normal place would be so much easier. Thought about buying a console like the later cars but those are too big. Good winter project I guess.

Your dash looks nice, and goes well with the steering wheel. If I were you, I would keep the original dash in case you decide to switch it in the future. On your wood dash, I would just put a trim piece on the bottom so it matches the top and switch the speedometer and tach back to their original positions. I agree with your wife about cutting it for the stereo. I don't have one and don't plan on putting one in. I like listening to the sound of the 1098 and mechanical sounds better anyway. We just carry a small portable when we are out for the weather forcasts.

Actually, you really only need a couple changes to make yours into a sprite. Change out the grill and add the tags to the hood and trunk.. Somone already detrimmed the sides and hood.

By the way, what is your car number?

I'm working it the other way, back to Midget status. I've collected the trim, haven't summoned the courage to drill the holes yet. GAN2L19251, little after yours. Still has the 1098. I like the Midget grill better and like the chrome trim.

I like the look of the MG Grill a lot better too. My car had a Sprite grill in it when bought, but is back to MG now.

Here is a pic with the Sprite grill.

The MG grills can be pricey. I disassembled mine and straightened the uprights, cleaned and it looks nice. Chrome trim is nice too, hood piece I got for $2.80!! The rest is all in hand. I'd like some tonnaeu bars to keep the tonnaeu cover taut when driving. Still debating which carb set up to run, it has a Weber 32/36 on it but I have the stock carbs and they're in good shape so might revert back. I never got the point of fine tuning it this past season. It had a very notable stumble on acceleration and not very responsive, they tell me the twins are better for that but suffer a bit on the high side but max speed is a joke anyway, fastest I had her going was 80 and can't see ever going faster, going quicker sounds nice though. The twins look better too.

Did they just fill the holes when they removed the trim and did the bodywork on your car? If so, it may be a bit easier to replace some of the hood and some of the side trim. Otherwise, you will have to measure, tape and mark for the holes.

Mine is missing a couple pieces, but overall is pretty much all there and unmolested. The wiring, dash and such has never been messed with.
The only things that need work right now are the speedometer is messed up, there are several of the little locking tabs (the things that hold the emblem on from the inside) missing from the trunk emblem, and the front exhaust pipe bracket and clamp got lost during the tranny rebuild. The hardest thing to find will be the front exhaust bracket. I'm looking...

Oh yea, I would love to find an original steering wheel too someday.

If you need any reference pictures during your return efforts, let me know and I'll try to help.

The white one would most definately look great with the red and black..

Mine has a header, no exhaust bracket, straight back to the Monza thing (straight under the axle, not up and over it either, is that common?).
Anyway, I think, but haven't looked very hard, that either the holes were filled or new panels put on. Body work and paint on mine are mediocre, plenty good for the driver that I wanted, (I'm scheming to drive that little thing as often and as far as I can, and I have been so far). I tried attaching my chrome with magnets but don't think I'd trust it long term, will help me find good mounting point though.
I will need know exactly what hardware I'll need. Looked at Moss and VB and have an idea but that's as far as I've gotten.

Ask Tony Barnhill he just restored his.

Anyway,

Yes, that's right. Well, I should say, that's the way every one I have seen is. I don't think there wouldn't be enough room to go over it.

Yours heads back up after the axle, mine doesn't, ends up kinda low.
Yeah, Tony, what parts do I need to get the trim on proper? Not looking at the moment but I remember there were two different looking clips and I didn't know if you needed some of each or what.

Ah, I see now. I went back and looked at the pictures of your car. The pipes are quite a ways below the bumper. They are less than an inch from the bottom of the overrider on mine. Do you have a lot of vibration or trouble with dragging when you turn into drives and the such?

Thanks a lot. From what I have seen the past few days, you could pretty much generically post "Sweet Ride" as a post subject. That has applied to every car on this thread so far..
There are some nice cars out there.

Yes.
backing out when there's a angle in the approach usually gets the tips hitting the ground (my own driveway). I'll have to see about reworking that (again) I had it off once and bent and twisted to straighten it out but raising is a bit more involved.

Too much talk about my car in your thread.
Do you have oil leaks? We discussed crankcase venting on the 1098 a bit a while back, I assume yours is like most early 1098cg.

How do you feel about those fender mirrors? They look pretty far forward. Are they functional? I put Harley mirrors on mine a few months ago. Still like the look of fender mounts though.
