Old Audi coupe

I learned of an '82 Audi 4000 coupe in my area for sale. It's s'posed to have about 52 K miles, and be in excellent condition, new brakes, newer tires, good maintenance records. This is the 2 door "GT" version with the 5 cylinder engine. I know the 4 door/4 wheel drive Audis of the early to mid 80's were highly desired but dunno how much this one should fetch. I'm thinking about it for a driver/something to play with. Any idea about it's worth?

Can't really say what it might be worth, but we had an '86 VW Quantum with the same (I think) 2.5 5 cylinder. GREAT car! Wish we still had it.

If it is a Quattro Coupe, be prepared to pay more than you might want to. The front wheel drive cars are still good, just fetch less money.

It is likely worth a grand or two. The upholstery is fragile, unless it is leather. If it has a digital dash, make sure it all works. The 5 bangers are really durable, I had one in a 5k wagon that was way over 250k miles, and still running strong. Plan on a timing belt/water pump replacement unless there is proof in writing that it has recently been done.I have had older Audis for at least the last 10 years, and have come to like them a lot. I keep a 5000 turbo Quattro wagon as pretty much a winter car, and I really like it. Good gas mileage, OK reliability( Kinda Jaguar like, not nickels and dimes, but quarters and half dollars) Parts tend to be expensive if they have to come from the dealer, but OK otherwise. The GTs look good, and if you need a new hobby, the guts from a 4000 Quattro should be able to be made to fit.

Well, went to see it. It's really beautiful and only 42K miles. Perfect gold paint outside, brown leather inside. No tears but some light color leather "cracks" showing in parts of the front seats. Downsides are that it is an automatic and slow as sin, and he wants 3800 bucks. He may come down more if pressed. I didn't push it. I don't think it excites me enough to want to replace any of my current cars and don't have garage space for any more. But it is a nice one......
