Back in the early-to-mid-fifties in England, when Skiffle was very popular, I learned that song from a version sung by Lonnie Donegan (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxnpWWzAmDI). In later years I thought that the Kingston Trio used it, with different lyrics, for their song MTA, about poor Charlie on a Boston transit train. I have since discovered the tune is from an older song, "The Ship that never returned".

That was one of the first song I learned years back. I remember as a kid being embarrassed to sing the verse about the ladies being nice to their husbands. I don't know why, I just was. I also remember going to the county fair with my dad and seeing Boxcar Willie. He did that song too. MY dad could do the "train whistle" just like Boxcar.

Glad you can play it cause I need your help. I re wrote the lyrics for Kelly's anniversary present but I can't play the tune. I always make up silly songs for her about the dogs but nothing for her. Here they are set to the same basic melody:
