It just brought back memories, this is what my dad did after the war, lots of old pictures packed away. :thumbsup2:

Great photo! Why not set up a gallery here on BCF, and post many of your dad's photos.

I looked at all those truck cabs, and thought - probably not a single one has automatic transmission gearbox.

(Do I detect a 1950 DeSoto Deluxe sedan in there?)
 
That would be nice Tom, but all of Dad's old photos are in South Carolina at one of my sisters. As far as the trucks go, most didn't have synchronized transmissions they had to be double-clutched. Most drivers back then could recognize the engine RPMs and match them to their speed and shift without using the clutch! Dad was very good at it, he said the clutch was very hard to push and after driving all day his leg would ache, especially when delivering in the city.
 
Truckers back before cell phones and even earlier CB radios, gave other truckers messages using hand signals and lights. I you passed a speed trap, you would tell an oncoming trucker it was there and what type it was, tripod or moble. Truckers back then were a close-knit community!
 
Since there seems to be some interest, here are a few pictures of a beautifully restored 260 Brockway, which is what Dad drove and put many miles on.

Great photos Paul! I love this kind of post it reminds my of my own dad and grandad.
 
A few years ago there was a fellow with a Brockway would show up to our local cruise night. Only problem being it was a plaza parking lot so he always arrived early and left late so as not to deal with the small traffic lanes and parking spots. Cool truck!
