Well since the move to Oklahoma, I've discovered that three fourths of Oklahoma is rocks! It actually grows them! I think the term, "Rock Garden", originated here. Even so, we love it here in the Eastern part, with it's rolling hills, hard wood trees and very friendly people. The new house will be at least another 4 months before done. Can't work on my cars, because 40X60 shop is 3/4ths full of house hold stuff. Soooooo, the only thing for me to do, is go pick up more rocks! Haven't found any with any Yellow in it, or oil coming out of it, but I'll keep looking. Like Forrest said,"it's like a box of chocolate's, you never know what your going to get"! :jester: PJ

We have crops of rocks here as well. My uncle from Florida said "You don't dig holes in N.Y., you blast 'em."
Fortunately ours are full of fossils, and I'm a bit of an amateur geologist.
 
Dug 300 feet of ditch with a machine to a 3 foot depth last Friday. I found 2 rocks the whole way. Both about the size of a softball.
Solid clay 1 foot in, but no rocks to speak of
 
The problem here is, when digging a trench for water, electric, etc, a bed of sand has to be placed in it to protect what ever your putting in there from the rocks. Sand, good clean fill has to be hauled in. Just dug a trench 900 feet to put in a 2 inch water line. I'll be so glad when this utility service construction phase is over. PJ
 
Here, the natives think sand <span style="font-style: italic">is</span> "dirt". Only impediment to digging is the layer of vegetation and its various roots. And eighteen inches is the code minimum for service trenches. Weird.
