Ray - wouldn't want to risk my life in either of those. But I guess it depends on your definition of "flying"!

How 'bout this ... the Hafner Rotabuggy. If I recall, it flew (?) only a few times; the guys inside would always get out shaking and pale as a ghost. It was meant to drop a Willys "jeep" with more control than just a 'chute.

I once flew in a C-47 "Gooney Bird", sort of strange sitting there facing the rear and watching then looking out the window to see the wings go up and down.

AH! The rare OC-47. Ornithopter Cargo. Only one prototype made which tragically crashed while attempting to roost in a tree.

Yes, the program was quite hush-hush. I was sworn to secrecy, but now that I've let the cat out of the bag, I must go into hiding because my life is in danger now. Agents hired by the conspiracy of conventional rigid-wing aircraft manufacturers will try to assasinate me. They don't want anyone to know that ornithopters are superior in every way to rigid-wing aircraft and they stand to lose billions of dollars in lost military contracts if word gets out.
 
We had a Gooney go over here just a month or so ago. I heard it, thought: "That's an oddly familiar sound... like big twin radials."

walked outdoors and looked up to see it about 1k ft off the deck. On final to our local airport. Very strange feeling. Tho they were used as spray birds here a while back when the MedFly was the rampant evil. I DO get a kick outta those big ol' lumps. Did ride in one in Thailand once, too. I don't think I'd PAY for the privelege tho.
