I put the battery charger on for about a half an hour, just so I had enough charge in it to do some testing. Figured out what the procedure for testing the gen was and made a really neat little bridge from a scrap of wire with a wide terminal and small terminal. Attached is a piece of wire with a alligator clip on it to attach to my tester. Started car without wire attached and put in the little test wire. Nothing fried so that is a good sign. Attached it to the meter and ground and gave it a bit of throttle. Volts started to increase which to me meant it was working. So what could it be? Must be the regulator right? I swapped out the regulator but then asked myself why was the ignition light not coming on. Well the bulb was blowed up silly!!!Turned the car on and the light goes out. I tried several regulators that I have and the same thing happens.

If the generator is charging and ignition light is going out, does that mean the regulator is fine? Could I still possibly have a bad regulator but the generator puts out and the ignition light goes out?

How can I test the regulator?

Be patient. I am learning a lot you know

Ahhh. I read the first part and probably skipped that. Going to look at it really quickly and then off to bed.
Cheers

Ok I have read "Voltage Regulator 101" and it raised a few questions.

Do you need to change any wires on the regulator?

Are newer regulators build differently than older ones?

This last question is because it looks like it was replaced with a new regulator and the ones I have been swapping in and out are originals.

I'll be testing it later.
