Ok, mileage check.

last night I did an odometer check with the midget on the interstate. I was at 9.7 miles on the trip meter at mile marker 44. I was at 18.4 miles on the trip meter at mile marker 33. I went 11 miles and the trip meter only registered 8.7 miles. That is a difference of 21%. So I need to add 21% to my trip mileage to know my accurate mileage. I went 145 miles + 21% =175 miles. I went 175 miles on 4.1 gallons of gas. That is near 43 mpg. Not bad for some mountain climbing, some interstate, some rural highway and some city driving. Should do nicely on a trip to see what I can get. I think I could get near 50. Those taller gears really help.

Kim,

What are you running again? 1275, Datsun 5 speed, and 3.7?

That is great mileage, I'd love to follow in your footsteps!

1275, datsun 5 speed and 3.55. 5th is only good for between 40 and 65 mph. It can't pull it until you are going at least 40 and then at about 65 it can't push the wind and you have to gear down. I also have the weber 32/36. Been experimenting with jets. I think I am about right.

Cool, good to know. I'm thinking that I'll eventually end up with a mild-build fuel injected 1275, Datsun 5 speed, and 3.7. May just end up with the 3.9 though, not 100% sure.

I'm hoping with the 3.9 I could pull a reliable 30-35. I think the fuel injection will help quite a bit.

i'm running a 1098 with a mild cam, 5 speed, and 3.9 rear. running at a near steady 60 mph i got 38.8 mpg on a recent run of about 500 miles. The engine will pull in 5th from about 30 mph up to 75 mph to 80 mph or so in 5th. If i need to go faster than that I can downshift, but horsepower IS the limiting factor. Definetly faster with the top up! the way i'll be running to LotO. .. will give a full mileage check there for consumption going over the Rockies, and across the Plains...

I used to get 37 on trips with my 3.9 gear and stock tranny and weber. Now I have the bigger tires, the 3.55 and the 5 speed tranny, plus I went down 2 sizes on the main jet in the primary of the weber.
