Ok, I've started back on the EType!

Just joined this forum about 5 minutes ago and one of the first posts I see is from old friend Mike and Koolcat, who were from warm? and sunny? Michigan! I remember ,years ago, taking five minutes of my time and teaching him EVERYTHING I knew about E-Types! Glad to hear you got those big tires on, did you go to 6" wheels? If that new Miata the fellow was talking about wasn't a better car then the old TR's, MG's etc, then the automotive industry has not improved the product in the past 40 years!

Talking about Miatas and non-brit sports cars, I have had 3 MGB's a TVR2500M, E-Type, Mk II Jag, Bug-eye, TR6, TR7, TR3A, Midget, MGA, 2 Triumph Bonnies, 2 BSAs, etc, Every One of them was challenging to repair and maintain, but satisfying to drive, probably because I felt I had personal input into the car's abilities and got positive (usually) feedback when the car performed as a result of my tinkering. I had a 2000 Miata, and it was nice, but not really any more fun than the brit cars, and rather bland of character. I know that I only keep the cars stock, and guys who do performance mods on ANY car get the satisfaction of their labor's results, but the frequent needs (there's always something to tinker with) of a brit car give one the oportunity to get that little bit of satisfaction with greater frequency than with a "reliable" car. That said, my new black MR2 Spyder is a great little sports car with more "edge" than the Miata, but I still tinker with and drive my B engined TD on weekends. If I sold it, I know I'd have to find another brit or
somehow, there'd be a "hole in my soul".

Update: Ok, I have my Independent Suspension a little closer to done. I have put in new roller bearings, seals, etc. in the lower control arm and I have gotten new U-joints (4 of them) on the half axels. I am ordering Cross-drilled break rotors and then will attach the axel shafts.

Now I just have to have my calipers rebuilt (and sleaved in stainless steel), new bushings/bearings in the hub carriers, then new Spax shocks and Ill be done with my IRS.

I feel guilty at how easy and simple my IRS is in the Lotus.. But hey.. at least yours is WAY heavier than mine...
