Got blind-sided today by life and I'm at a total loss.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Nothing too serious but I guess I just lost track of things. Boss called me yesterday and told me that I need to start taking some time off because I’m *maxed* out on my accumulated vacation time. In fact actually he forced me to take Friday off.

I know I’m going to get calls from customers, but I’ve been told to tell them to put in their calls through the normal channels and that someone will be covering for me. I’m sure I’ll find a better way to tell’em that, but truth is I actually feel a little guilty leaving them hanging.

Not only that - I have no clue what I'm going to do tomorrow morning when I wake up. Oh sure I've got a few things on my to-do list, but nothing more than some silly busy stuff that usually get's taken care of over the weekend.

Holly Cow! If’n I'm this much of a mess now – what the heck’s going to happen to me when I actually retire! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

You can come help me finish pulling the engine out of the TR8! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif Then the Jazz 'n Wine Festival cranks up tomorrow afternoon.

Bret, look at it this way the company is still going to be there after you are gone. so don't sweat about taking some well deserved time off. Oh and by the way when you retire the honey-do list seems really long LOL.
I used to be like that until the first time I was laid off and when I was recalled 8 mths later (and no work in between)I was a totally different person, still consciencious but when I walked out at night I forgot about everything behind those doors until I went in the next day.

As Weewillie said, I also, have been laidoff for 8 months. This was after about 32 years of overexagerrated work loads for an unappreciative company. I've found out that I'm the reason I'm happy. Not my job or any other part of my life. Now I get up every morning and look forward to whatever happens. Time off is responsible not negligent. The people you deal with will still be there when you get back, and you will feel a whole lot better. Sleep late, wonder around leisurely, and look as if the world was made just for you. On Monday you'll be fine and actually looking forward to another day off.

Part of the problem guys isn't that I couldn't think of something. I'm just one of those types that likes to have a plan ahead of time.

But actually I could use the time to finish up on some of my move from the apartment into my new rental house. Planned on doing that over the weekend but I guess I could finish things up tomorrow.

Thinking about it a little more I do have to look at some window coverings for the house and the dryer in the laundry needs some attention too.

I'll also have my teenage son Matt & my 8 year old Dot Julia to deal with because it's spring break right now.

Then you will be busy alright

Bret,
Without being too "preachy" you sound like my husband who for some reason put the needs of his customers first. He had not taken a vacation in years without taking phone calls and taking at least a day or two to "run something by" or "make a trouble call" The only way I could get him to leave it behind was to hide his phone and leave town. He missed soccer games and awards ceremonies....until our oldest turned 14 and he realized...he's leaving soon. Now we all build cars together. He and our boys spend hours in the garage together....family vacations are to pick up recent purchases and he has really slowed down. Guess what, his customers still think he's the best, he is still making his numbers, and we are a closer family. You have two younger kids who are just getting to the age that they are almost little humans...Daddy time is just the ticket and it sounds like you have lots of time coming. Enjoy!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/yesnod.gif

You own a british car, I am sure there is something that needs to be done to it.
Actually nothing major *needs* be done right now to PAGAN. She's been behaving herself of late. Good thing too as I'm in the middle of this move.

After that the move I have a few *to-dos* to the MG and the Shark.

ROAD TRIP!!

Well, you could always pop over here to Puerto Rico
and lend a hand rebuilding the Crypt Car's passenger
side rear suspension.

Then you'd be internationally famous and also get a
Team Crypty voucher for a deep sea fishing trip aboard
Tres Gatos the Triumph red Mako fishing machine!

I w better not mention the eye candy on the beach near
home.

Dale:

I am afraid to ask what is used for bait on the Thres Gatos, since I do remember a boat called Cinco Gaticos.

Thought I'd give you guys an update on what happened.

Well, first off - I finished the move out of my old apartment into the new place. Then I took a drive in the Shark and then spent some quality time spoiling the kids. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

FYI I guess work can't do without me either. Because about three times on Friday the guy they sent out to cover for me had to call me for some advice & guidance with a problem on one of my systems. Then today I get a call from dispatch about a customer having a problem. Guess who? That's right the call was for the same system & exact same problem that my fellow engineer called me for about on my day off.

Funny thing is I told him what the problem was and where to look (I swear 10 minute fix at best /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif ) and he still couldn't figure it out. What’d I do? Told the dispatcher that I was out of town and that they need to contact the engineer who was suppose to be covering for me. Other than that I’ll take care of them on Monday.

Am I gloating? God d@mn right I am... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

This could mean the company needs to up your money some more. You already know this, surely but: don't train yer replacement. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

One things for sure Doc, This bonehead won't be replacing me anytime soon. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Prior to this I've worked with this guy several times and have never been impressed. Good worker & washes the trucks as good as any detailer would but hardly technical at all.

Sounds like a former "GetReady" guy at a Chevy dealership.

If by that you mean he's good at keeping the vehicles clean & shinny - then yes. He’s actually kind of anal about it. But the guy is at a total loss when something breaks & actually needs fixing.

Well Bret, you didn't plan ahead enough. The proper way to plan is to start retiring the day you get hired!--Keoke

You kidding me? I can’t even plan what I want to do for dinner half the time.
