I'm making the interior panels for my 62 Sprite. By the way, George Zeck who recommended getting a stapler on ebay and stapling the vinyl is a genius. If it needs to be adjusted you can pull the staples and readjust it. BRILLIANT! And with 20,000 staple I can do a lot of adjusting. My question though, is, how do you make the 3D panels behind the seats? Pictures, drawings with circles and arrows, anything, would be appreciated.

If someone could tell me how to post pictures I would.

Thanks,
Walter

you can post pictures one of 2 ways.

If you post the pics in a post they have to be small enough to fit. use a photo editor to scale down the size of your pictures.

Or, quickly open an online photo account - I use flickr and upload your pictures there and then send us the link.

I tend to use the second option mostly as I don't have the energy to edit reference pictures

good luck

Hi George,
Not over rated at all. You took a lot of the stress out of the panel work. I'm talking about the pieces behind the doors, wrap over the fenders and go around the receivers for the top frame. 3D meaning not flat. I'm using 1/8" tempered masonite, it don't bend so good.

Walter -

I used the old ones as templates (version 1) -- then fine tunes it with paper / poster board until I was sure it fit (version 2).

The good pieces - wrapped in cotton batting - was re-made with masonite (glorified cardboard form Home Depot). The recovered with "pleather".

The "3D" part of it -- you'll laugh - liquid nails. I used some clamps and left overs of cotton & pleather and let it sit up overnight. Been holding solid since August of last year. Looks awesome.

I did have to cheat on the door panels - metal self tapping screws since the "3D" or curve is much more pronounced.

I'd be happy to send pic's if you need - but hopefully all is self explainatory.

George

So you embedded the fabric with liquid nails, let it set up and covered with pleather?

Here's an attempt at pictures.

I believe it worked. Thanks John-Peter Smit.

ooooo pretty! and turning up those speaker might actually stop the car!

Now that is sharp!

I just made some masonite door panels for my MG. Used 1/8 The thinnest HD had with 1/4 staples and pain black vynil. Have a thin layer of 1/8 padding spray glued to the masonite. Worked quite well.
