Oil that generator

Country flag
Offline
I was reading an old article by Reid Trummel from 1996 in the Austin Heley Magizine that reminded me to oil the generator. (There is an oil hole at the rear) I haven't done it in 7 years. How many of you forget that one?
I love to revue those old mags.

Uhhhhhhhh, TH you be so lucky it is a wonder it has not made lunch by reducing its own end plate to toast.

I had my generator rebuilt recently and the shop foreman pointed out the oil hole with a recommendation to oil the generator periodically. I would never have known if he had not told me. Shame on me for not reading my workshop manual more carefully.

This is one of those places where a little modern technology is extremely helpful.

I set reminders and recurring calendar events in my Outlook email to remind myself of these sorts of things. It really helps the brain out. I have one for the "once a month items" and for the "once every 6 months" items etc, etc.

I just wish there was a way to tie it in to the odometer as well, but seeing as none of the fun cars go very far right now, that's much less of an issue.

Well if you have the generator rebuilt chances are the re builder will also do what I do. Inside the Bush end p;ate is a small felt pad. This pad is loaded with high temperature grease. When the bush warms up while running it liquify slightly and keeps the bush lubed,Oiling as specified is still required,-Keoke

Yes BOB, that is corredt we covered that just recently here on the Forum some one asked about that little felt.--Keoke
