Oil Seal Removal from Idler Arm? Need Help

I am attempting to remove the oil seal from the idler arm, but it will not budge. I do not have a special tool for the removal of this seal, but perhaps I need to run to the local parts store and buy one? Can this seal be removed without a special tool? I didn't have any issues knocking out the bearings, but this seal is really stuck.

I may have done this 10 years ago when I overhauled mine - don't remember for sure:
Use xacto knife to remove rubber part from rim, leaving ring seated in bore.
Use smallish drill to weaken two parallel lines on this ring about 3/8" apart
Use cold chisel to distort this weakened area inward enough to get a screwdriver in there and lever it out.
 
Take a small (cheap) flat screwdriver and bend the very tip over 90deg, forming a squarish 'hook.' Then, you can get the screwdriver up and hook the inside of the seal and pull it out (working one side then the other).
 
FWIW -

The new-style seals are a lot thinner and you can stack two in the same place as the old one.

The bushings have to be reamed or honed to fit the shaft. I bought a brake hone and spent a half-hour honing mine to fit. Worked like a charm.
