Oil Rings

I have my BJ8 torn down and I’m in the process of replacing the rings. The bores and pistons measure in spec, so I just deglazed the bores and ordered a new set of std bore rings from Moss.

The new 3-piece oil rings from Grant piston Rings seem to be wrong. The stock rings are 3/16 thick and have a radial wall of about .130”. Groove depth is .160” from the face of the ring lands. The new rings measure.170” radial wall and stand proud of the groove.

I’m trying to figure out if they were just packed wrong or has anyone else had this issue? It isn’t easy finding oil rings in this thickness and bore size 3.281. 83.5mm is slightly more common but I can’t find those in 3/16” thick online.

Thoughts?

If you contact Total Seal, and give them the specs of the existing rings, you can get exact replacements.

I would send those back, or see if they'll supply the correct spec.
