Oil recommendations

Hi! I've got my BJ8 running now and it is doing pretty well. Before I put it on the road, I'm going through the brakes and getting some problems with them fixed (hopefully). I would also like to go through and change out some of the other oils in the car because it has sat so long and I don't think it has been done for a really long time.

I have the following recommendations for:

Transmission-Redline MT-90

Rear axle-GL5 rated gear oil SAE 80W-90.

My question is, how much do I need of these oils? Secondly, I have seen and heard of the benefits of going with synthetic oils; however, I thought it was a bad idea to use synthetic oil after your car has been using "dino" oil for a lot of years. A couple of the problems I had heard was that synthetic oil will leak out much more readily than "dino" oil and that synthetic oil will cause a chemical "crud" burst on components that have a glaze from the "dino" oil and you end up with flakes of glaze in your synethic oil. So, I'm getting ready to change the fluid in the transmission and it is NOT after a rebuild, so should I still go with the synethic? If not, what is a good oil to use instead? Looking at the service manual for my car it lists engine oil (20w-50) as the recommended oil.

Anyway, any suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again!

SP8,Just go with the recommendations and add a good high uality 20/50 oil to the engine. The engine will require aboutseven Qts,Tranny, About 2 Qts, and the diff until it runs out the fill hole on level ground- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif---Keoke

Doesn't the 'tranny' or gearbox/OD take closer to 4 qts?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif Yeah:

Tranny with OVD ~=3.75 Qts --N0 OVD = 5 Pints

Diff----------- = 3.6 US Pints

Sump----------- = 7 Qts

Watch these figures cuz they came out ah the book-Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
