Hi Guys,
I hope everyone is doing well. I've been putting together a list of priorities for this year and I think oil pressure is at the top of the list. I know there are common problems all these engines have, but I want to begin with a quality oil pump to start with. I would like to hear your opinions and results if you have replaced yours. Please list the type,make and vendor if possible. Thanks for your help.

I have replaced the oldest wit the High capacity- rotor type by AHead (Not usable for over 6000 rpm engines)But good for me
 
Supposedly the pump was changed from the gear type to the rotor type because the gear type put undue load on the cam gear, possibly even causing stripping of the gears. If your engine is otherwise tight the rotor (later) type gear will provide adequate pressure.

I got this backwards ... the rotor type pump was the earlier type. Thanks to Randy Forbes for the correction.
 
Me, well I replaced mine with a DW high capacity unit. You do have to cut down the suction spigot and fit the old strainer on which needs to be distorted a tad ( done when you fit the sump) as mine clashed with the new DW sump. (not sure about the original sump as there definitely is a capacity difference between the two and that is a whole other story)

Oil pressure is up in the 60s, when warm, using Penrite oil and with a re-bore, reground crank, and a new rocker set up.

Well I have asked the same to Adam at AH Spares in UK as I am rebuilding the engine as part of the restoration of my car, and this is what I have been told regarding the choice of just replacing internals (gears, studs) of oil pump vs. complete original vs. high capacity:

"We would recommend replacing the oil pump complete. It’s a small cost for some piece of mind knowing that it is all functioning well. The high capacity oil pump is designed for a worn engine where a lot of oil passes through the bearing faces and causes low oil pressure. Pumping more oil around the engine compensates for this.
The standard pump pumps the correct amount of oil around the engine in correspondence to the revs. This is the one to have if the engine is fully rebuilt."

So I will be ordering the standard complete pump for my rebuild.
