The oil presure guage in my Etype 4.2 pegs to the right when I first start the engine, then slowly falls back to 0 . I've checked the presure on a mechanical guage and shows 50 lbs constant,''whew'' . I replaced the sending unit with no improvement. I've been told the guage needs to be calibrated. Does this make sense and how can it done?

That is possible. Another possibility is a flakey OIl Pressure Releif Valve. You might what to pull that and have a look, clean it, etc...
