Oil Pressure Valve

Not sure what device you're talking about.

Do you mean the oil pressure relief valve?....or the oil pressure sending unit?
 
Why if it works ok?
 
On the A-series engines the relief valve is indeed the valve with the domed nut and the long spring underneath.

On transverse engine A-series cars it's common to replace the standard plunger/spring valve assembly with a ball bearing, shortened spring, and adjusting knob (modified) dome nut. So much debris gets in the oil system of the transverse engines that using the ball minimizes problems with the relief valve and the adjusting knob lets you dial in your oil pressure.

I wouldn't think it necessary on an inline engine. Still... it's a fun little change.
 
i changed that spring during the rebuild but it looked and felt like the old one. cheap insurance i guess.

Certainly wud B a good idea to examine the bullet taper for abnormal wear and the spring for good tension. Unless you have a new spring for comparison that would B a hard task tho. Unless current stoks from the usual suspects are NOS the afteramrket pieces will be highly suspect.

Very easy to modify the holder/cap for adjustability of the spring if necessary.
 
And *do* do it while the engine's out... it is a ~Genuine Booger~ to replace, engine in situ.
