I have been looking for the wiring plug for the oil sending unit. It needs replacing and I do not want to replace the wiring harness now. I have checked several sources and can not seem to find it and I think it has been discussed or at least mentioned here.
Tom, NAPA carries a pretty good variety of switch connectors, you may try there. I have one of the oil pressure switches that takes a standard 3 prong headlight connector.
Jeff
I think there is usually a 'hood' that slides down the wiring and snugs onto the black base of the OP switch. At least on mine there is. So the spade connectors are not exposed.
These oil pressure sending units must be pretty standard. The one from my car fits my sending unit socket perfectly. That makes me think a plug from most any car would probably fit.
That is so cool! Where did you get that socket? I never knew there was such a thing! Does anyone have the TRF # for the 3 bladed oil sending unit? BTW, my wiring is just like Tomshobby's.... 3 blades, only one covered w/ plastic.
You can tell all of the "old" mechanics on the forum, by the tools that we used over the years that those not doing this daily have never seen. My thin tappet wrench to adjust the hood safety catch nuts, Tom's sending unit socket, etc.
I think that you can buy them from Matco, Snap On or even Craftsman. Fits all GM, Ford and most imports using single or three prong connectors.
I have attached a picture of what's on my Spitfire, I would assume it to be the same on a TR. The OP switch is located just below the distributor. I guess I should have called that rubber cover a "boot" to be more correct. I believe the part number for it is UKC7871.
Also, to answer another post about the TRF part number for a 3-prong switch, there are some variations, so you need to check your commission number. The one for my Spit is GPS113.
This switch is plug-compatible with a standard GM switch, as used on 1979 GM models with a 5L engine. Olds Starfire, for example. Standard's number is PS-64. NAPA number is OP6610 (Echlin unit). $10.50 versus TRF's $24.95 and readily available at pretty well all engine parts places.
If you do a Napa search for "oil pressure switch" you will also bring up the links to their OP Switch sockets. Again, these are generally available from parts stores, in the range of $6-10. Makes it easier to get 'em off.
