Oil pressure question again?

There seems to be a lot of variance from car to car - or is it from year to year? Did earlier cars have a different type pump that gave lower pressure at lower RPMs with the regulator limiting to around 70psi at speed? And newer cars have a more constant pressure from idle up? Or is the 25psi just consistent with a worn engine? Does anyone know or are we all just guessing?

Last MG I had with 25psi at idle needed rod bearings...it still ran hard, didn't use any oil & there was nothing wrong with it...at speed oil pressure was 75 also....but, when I crawled up under it & removed the oil pan, the #3 bearing showed bronze......that's not a hard check to make! I'd rather do it early enough where all I have to do is redo the bearings rather than later when I have to turn the crank!
