Oil pressure line question ???

Well I was thinking I took good notes on this before I took it apart but I need to make sure. Question is with the stud used to hold the oil line banjo fitting to the filter head. The stud I have is 2 1/8". Should there be any groove in the stud or does the oil just pass thru the gap between the head and the stud? Also does the brass washer with the larger hole go on the inside, and smaller on the outside of the banjo? This setup sure looks like a leak waiting to happen.

Oil just passes through the gap (remember there is no real flow here, so it doesn't take much). In theory, the inner washer has a larger hole, but in practice it doesn't seem to matter much.

The sealing takes place between the washers and the flat surfaces of the filter head, banjo & nut; so it actually seals up pretty good. Only leak I've had was from a damaged nut. Obviously the surfaces need to be in good condition, but I doubt that will be an issue for you.

The dead soft washers are self sealing, the larger ID one is inboard.Suggest a drop of locktite on the capnut. There is not much danger of an oil leak if the nut stays snug(18LB appx)

Keith,

Here are some photos of mine when I took it off. Mine has an oil cooler, but relatively the same intstallation

Oddly enough, I was just about to install mine this morning and am try to decide weather I want to continue running the oil cooler or not.

FYI, my line runs up differently than yours as this car was running an electric fuel pump mounted back by the tank. I know that the line on the stock car that I have runs back like yours then up towards the mechanical pump and fixes onto one of the studs there before travelling up further.

Cheers,

Just a word of caution...When we went to fire up my buddy's TR3B for the first time, we didn't get any oil pressure. We unhooked the hose going to the gauge, then the banjo fitting...still no flow. Finally we unscrewed the stud. Plenty of flow. As it turned out, my buddy got too liberal with his use of gasket sealer and it plugged up the passage where the stud screwed in. We managed to clean it out without taking off the whole filter assembly.
