oil pressure and temp gauge

I just realised that the GT6 has a temp gauge and oil pressure idiot light, I can't imagine driving without an oil pressure gauge! Is there a source for a temp/oil pressure gauge for the GT? Other than the obvious connections any other "gotchas" to watch out for?

Do you mean is there a dual-gauge (a.k.a. safety-gauge) unique to the GT6? I don't think there is. You should be able to use one from just about any MG.

Fitting the temperature expansion bulb to the GT6 may require an adapter bushing. (I believe that bushing is required for the Spitfire also). See Minimania.com and look up part number 11K2846.

The oil pressure will require a 'T' so you can run both the warning light and the gauge. I prefer the copper line kits to nylon tubing. If you go with copper, be sure to wind a coil or two into the line before the tubing passes through the firewall. This will absorb vibrations and engine motion to extend the life of the tubing.

Thanks Doug, I'll check this out. The dual temp/oil gauge in my B is just so natural, it doesn't make sense to rely on a light anyways. Hard to imagine the GT relied on a light! Always thought of the Triumph as more of a serious driver's car, even though my first love is the CB B's.

Try www.holden.co.uk

They own the tooling and stock the entire range of Smiths gauges.

Replacement of the water temp gauge with a Smith's combination oil pressure/water temp gauge is a common thing in GT6's.

The combo Smith's gauge was supplied with many MG's, and is not hard to find, especially on ebay. The bezel is sometimes different, but you can use the bezel from your water temp gauge (or better yet a busted gauge from ebay or someone's junk drawer).

Both sides of the combo water/oil gauges are mechanical gauges, not electrical.

You can/should keep your oil warning light, but to do that you'll need to put a T piece on the block so you can attach both the electrical sensor for the light & the line for the gauge.

If you don't want to scour ebay or get a new/rebuilt combo gauge from Nisonger

Rimmer Brothers in England will sell you everything you need: adapters, gauge, etc.

Search down the page for "combined gauge".

If you'll put 'GT6' somehow in your subject line, I'm more likely to read a post. The TR's, Spits, Stags, etc. are nice, but I don't have much experience with them & scan mostly for GT6 posts.

BTW, there is also a "side-by-side" version of the dual gauge, that I think was original to some Land Rovers. Bought one on UK fleabay for the Stag, because it had a black bezel that matched the other instruments nicely. But they don't come up very often.
