i am trying without success to drop/remove my oil pan. I have removed the 23 bolts etc I have rubber mallet whacked it ,screwdriver under the edges (I quit that feeling it would lead to damage of the pan or bending the lip). Is there a trick to this have i missed a bolt etc

If you've got all the bolts out, I can't see why it wouldn't drop. Don't know if 23 is the magic number or not... If you already have the replacement gasket, that's one way to see where all the bolts go. Or look at the image on the Moss Motors site, although that's a drawing and not a photo, so not sure how accurate. Otherwise just feel around carefully to be sure they're all out. I do know there are bolts accross the front and back, not just the sides of the pan. And those on the front and back are different than the sides.

Instead of a screwdriver and prying, see if you can get a knife through the gasket and cut it.
 
Sounds like some sort of adhesive was used. Try a putty knife and tap it gently between the pan and the engine. working your way around the perimeter. It will come off. Then the fun starts....cleaning off all the residue.

from another site i received a tip--2x4 and a bottle jack put slight pressure on the pan over night. This is supposed to break the seal. This morning i released jack and tried with the Putty knife no luck ! From the top i used a long pry bar and a rubber mallet,worked along as much as possible both sides . It soon dropped a bit . I tapped about again and it dropped again . Lots and lots of sealant It's off thanks for the input fellows

Just an FYI, the front and rear pan bolts thread into blind hole aluminum housings mounted to the engine, and I believe the bolt lengths are different. Blind hole meaning that the bolts could bottom out if they're too long, and if you continue to try to tighten them, you can damage the threads. Just so you know.

yes ,the four most rear are the longest Whom ever was in this before had them mixed I wondered when i took the bolts out why they were only finger tight So much goop it wasn't going anywhere
