Oil pan torque

sorry just assumed it was a TR6 but I also assumed they all had the same issues, and yes you can check it from the front pulley, but when I tried on my TR6 I had a heck of a time getting a dial indicator in the front and getting repeatable reeading, with out pulling the radiator out, so when I had my oil pan off I decided to recheck it and I got .012, so I put new STD washers back in, but that was a few years ago, and now I have a newly rebuild engine to go in

Hi, Scott,

Yes, the engine was rebuilt in Staunton or Waynesboro about a year ago, so it should be OK.

Other forum members,

As for my adventure with the leaking oil pan, I can report SUCCESS. I filled the car with oil this morning and drove up and down the highway for about 45 minutes. When I returned home, I jacked the car up and inspected the oil pan. At best, I expected to see a little oil somewhere, but it was bone dry! Tight as a drum. Not a drop anywhere.

Thanks for all the good advice along the way. I realize now that dropping the oil pan and changing the gasket is a relatively simple thing, but it was a big deal for me. And I know experienced car people around here who have done this and have ended up with the same oil leak.

I think part of the trick was in using gasket maker rather than gasket sealant, and letting the oil pan sit gasket side down on a piece of glass overnight to let the gasket maker cure on an absolutely flat surface.

Or perhaps I was just plain lucky this time.

Give it time..the oil always finds it's way out..give it time and don't park in the living room.

Hi, poolboy,

Ha... ha! You are right! But for the moment I am enjoying a puddle-free basement.
