Oil/Liquid Extractor

Griot's Garage sells a Oil/Liquid Extractor for oil changes. Has anyone used one? What is the downside of changing your oil this way?
 
I want to hear more about this... it it a probe you place in the dip stick tube and a pump that sucks the pan dry? If it works it shure would make it easier.
 
they use them at some oil change places, but I always worried about sludge left in the bottom of the oil pan
 
I bought mine from Globalriders.com. I have loved it. It works great, no muss, no fuss. My only complaint is a very minor one. I got the smaller version, and have to pump it about 3 times to suck the 4.5 qt out of the Escort. Just to test, I opened the drainplug when I was done, and didn't get a drop. Klutz that I am I only made a mess when I took off the filter. Oh well.

BTW, I have no affliation with GR.com, but they did give me the same pump for less than the then advertised Griot's price. Just a suggestion.
 
I have to use a oil pump to change the oil on my boat inboard v-6. Most marine places sell them. A word of caution; don't bother with a "cheap" drill type they don't work worth a darn. I have a hand pump, costs about $30, it's a brass tube & works well.

p.s. make sure the oil is nice & warm when you do it it will make things much easier.
