Oil leak

My MGA is leaking oil from the two lifter inspection plates located on the left side of the block. I have tightened them, but they are still leaking oil. Any suggestion on how I can stop the leaking?

Ray

Hi, Ray -

I would imagine that if the cover plates are not bent from over-tightening, and the surfaces on the block are clean, about the only thing you can do is redo with new seals.

Should be able to get the seals from the usual suppliers.

Yup. The seals and washers need replacing, most likely. I'd go the extra step of lightly filming them with Hylomar, too. They're awkward to access so you only want to do this one time.

On a mga you want to use the original style cork seals. They have to be put on just right and there is very little room for error.(twisting of the side covers) My buddy glues extra cork around the sealing surface and that way he is sure to get a good seal. Other than being a PITA to get to you should have fun doing the task. Bob
