If you've got the 3/4-16 threads, the filter should be compatible with a 1)E30 BMW 6 Cylinder Car (84-91/92) 2) Ford Escort 3) huge others. This filter is actually longer than the standard midget one, but otherwise identical. I use K&N's HP2005 (includes anti-drainback valve).
As an aside, what are thoughts about using a synthetic oil with a lower viscosity rating (i.e. Mobil 0W40). As far as I can tell, when cold, if 0 weight oil is still less than 40 weight warm, it's probably better than 20W50, which will have drastically too high a viscosity at warmup while having desireable properties when overheated (or at least, warm).
Any thoughts? My use is primarily autocross, so I'm looking for a combination of maximum protection at all temperatures. I have copious (heaps) of oil pressure, except when very hot (i.e. 100 degree weather and 5 autocross runs). Under these conditions the idle pressure dropped to about 20 lbs, as I recall, with Valvoline 20W50 Synthetic.
