Oil Filter help

I just received my new Mocal spin-on oil filter adaptor (FC290)today.
The instructions that came with it make no mention of what filter size to use. I know the thread size is 3/4-16, but can anyone tell me what Fram, K&N or other filter they use?
Part number of the filter would be appreciated.... thanks!

FWIW -- I have always used the Fram PH2870A or equivalent -- a common VW/BMW filter.

I like the NAPA gold. I've seen a cutaway version of it and it's very well made. All the guys in Fleet Service where I work use them in their cars, and trucks. It is a bit longer than some of the others, but there are no problems mounting.

I believe the Wix, and the NAPA gold are the same filter.

OK, now I have to ask....
What do the numbers that identify the filter mean?
Are they oil capacity? Do they refer to a size?
I need an oil filter education :confuse:

Keith is correct, Wix makes the NAPA Gold filters for them and Wix has been a good filter company for over 40 years.

I used the NAPA Gold during break in, because I had three that were all changed withing the first 2,000 miles. Since then I've used the K&N. I think that they are both very good and probably pretty close to equal.

As far as the numbers go, you would have to look in each companies catalog to see what they use the numbers to represent, as they are all different in one way or another.

I just remembered that there is one Wix/NAPA that is too fat to fit on the adapter and clear the engine. I have forgotten the number. You need to use the longer, thinner versions. If you go go any parts stores that displays the filters openly, you can pick up the Fram and see the what I mean when you look at it dimensionally.

Thanks Paul- I intend to do that this morning. The one thing that I think will be good is that I no longer have a clutch slave cylinder so that should give me more room.
I only question the numbers/size is that I'm sure it would have to effect the capacity of the oil system based on how much the new filter holds.

For that reason, I prefer the longer to the short as mine is nearly vertical, with no issues with length at the bottom.

And obviously, pre-fill the filter or as much of it as you can before installing.

That is very apropos that you mention that Paul... they had a cut-away of various filters at the NAPA store. When I saw the inside of the FRAM compared to an equal of NAPA or even others, I think I'm done with FRAM.
