Spitfire Oil Filter for Mk1 Spitfire

Hello everyone,

This may be quite a simple question, but what oil filter fits a 1964 spitfire? I just wanted to do an oil change but at my local auto parts store they only carry the 3/4" (normal?) filters for which I would need an adapter. Compared to the filter that is currently on my car, it is much larger. Is the stock filter a 5/8" threaded? There is sadly no description or anything on my filter, it is just black. If so where can I get such older filters, and if not, where would be a good place to buy/order an adapter for the modern sizes?

Thanks everyone,

Jan

Moss, Victoria British, maybe even The Roadster Factory should have your parts. SpitBits is another good vendor.

Yeah, thank you, I would be ordering from them anyway, I was just hoping a local auto chain or something would have a filter so that I could do it today! Thanks though

Thanks everyone, I found a guy that deals with vintage british sports cars about 45min away from me that says he has the original old-style filters and many other parts cheaper than MossMotors or Victoria British. Its called sports-car-haven (add .com for the website). Anyone dealt with them before? Seems like a great relatively local shop/parts place to have!

dealt with loren fritz a while now. Good guy and he races a TR. Always got a fair price from him.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I intend to change the oil in Mum's Spitfire 1500 this weekend (it's also getting a new exhaust system).

I've got the adapter, and the first filter I installed had serious clearance issues with the air pump. I saw a number of filters mentioned above, but none explicitly stated whether they would easily clear the air pump or not.

Any recommendations? I will eventually remove the air pump assembly when Mum's not looking (she keeps insisting on keeping the car bone stock).

Thanks!
Jody
