Received my oil filter aftermarket upgrade.

Here are photos of the oil filter cartridge.

Can anybody tell from the photo what to buy when
comes time to replace this baby?

Of possible choices, don't know which I've got.

Fram ph 2870 works,it fits Volkswagon Jetta 2.0 if i remember right. If you prefer different brand name just cross over the fram number.I think Purolator #is 252

Before you put the unit on take it down to your FLAPS and just open boxes and match filters. You'll find it fits about anything on the rack. Just figure the length (depth) you want.

2wrench, Napa Gold 1516 is highly thought of. I've used them. Right now I have a Bosch 3422, which I like so far.

That is what I have always used, possibkly because when I did the conversion I was driving a VW Van and 300 series BMW which both take that same filter.

Hard to see much difference between that and the often suggested 3600. Both are of a length (look to be longer than the one in your pic) that look good painted the right shade of green.

Oh, please look at the links in my previous post regarding filter quality...

You can lead a horse to water. But you can't make 'em drink...

I think what amcboy is saying is that the Fram Filters aren't rated real high in that "study".
BTW, amcboy, just what are you doing in your avatar? Are you aiming some kind of machine...gun? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

OTOH, if you can find the study where they actually tested how well the filters REMOVE DIRT FROM OIL; the Fram tested solidly in the middle of the pack.

Yeah, that's what... But you're right, they DO filter pretty good...

I'm shooting for a film out of the back of a OV-10 Bronco.

Don't try this at home kids...

If you say so, amcboy. But it don't look like no Bronco I've seen around these parts.

Looks like the inside of a Boeing plane during build.

In my TR6 I'm using a WIX 51374 or a FRAM PH3614 -according to the "study", I should not use the FRAM.

My choice was based upon what was on the car when I got it, and what that became crossed to. I have no idea if it's correct or not or how to tell if it's not functioning properly (aside from the oil pressure seeeming OK).

If I was able to sift through it right, seems to me
a WIX or a Napa Silver would be good choices.
Did I hit it right?

Napa Gold 1516 is good, but
may be a bit more expensive while the Silver is
much the same unit only a bit cheaper.
Did I read it right?

Yes they do.

Now if only you could get them to stay together, or to at least route through the filter media. And then there's the ones they sell pre-filled with clumping material.

Fram does make some good filters. The common Extra Guard is not one of them. It's their bottom of the line filter.

I abandoned Fram filters after about the 3rd filter failure. That was quite enough for me.
