Hey guys, I had my strombergs out of my TR6 for about a year for an engine rebuild/restoration. Put them back in today, and fired the engine up (yae!) and there is a leak of oil from the bottom side of one of the carburetors.

I did overfill the damper in that one, but removed the excess amount by dunking the damper and wiping it clean, if that's a clue.

I've never taking the carbs apart--is there an oil seal that'd let oil by if it dried out by sitting there for a year, for example? Other ideas?

I think it is residual from the overfilling. The oil can either blow out the overflow hole or leak past the o-ring above the needle and be burned in the engine. There really aren't any other places for it to go.
 
I agree, probably that o ring needs replacing. BTW the carb rebuilding kits I've had from TRF did not include that o ring.

OK--thanks guys. I'm unfamiliar with the carburetor design--could you describe which o-ring? Or TRF part number would certainly do the trick if that's easier than words.

Update--the oil has stopped dripping, so either it was from the overfill, or the o-rings getting dry and then re-lubed when I started using the carbs again... just fyi for future searches.
