Oil Cooler Mount

Jerry, the advantage to an oil cooler in a TR6, as I see it, is: depending on size, you add about a quart of extra oil to your whole system (I have a 16 row cooler) which can't hurt. Too, the TR6 as a rule, tends to run hot, especially with any mods, even a hotter spark. Cooler oil, cooler running. I see no need for a thermostat, I always let my car come up to operating temperature from a cold start. I also love the spin-off adapter which goes with an oil cooler setup (Fram 3600). Of course you can get the adapter without the cooler takeoffs. The way I mounted my cooler guarantees no trouble with cracks and leaks. On the negative side, a stock TR6 that is enjoyed in a sane manner probably doesn't need one. From the way you have described your TR6 usage, I would say that you should save the money.
But if you push it, as many of us do, go with a cooler, especially in hotter climes.

Jerry,
Oil performs several functions in an engine. The most obvious is lubrication. Another very important task is cooling. In one of my very old books on the Ford Flathead the author says the oil is used for around 40% of the engine cooling. Water does not circulate to every area of an engine that develops heat. For example the crankshaft. The engine oil has to cool these areas. Increased capacity and an oil cooler help the oil to do it's job. I like Bill's approach with the 16 row cooler. Some people may think it is overkill, not me. If a 16 row cooler is only a few $ more I say go for it.
