Oil Change Suckers?

Has anyone tried these gizmos that let you suck oil out of the dipstick tube to change oil, instead of crawling under the car and using the drain plug? Do any of them work better than others?

It sounds easier, but I'm skeptical, considering the size of the dipstick tubes. Any comments will be welcomed.
Thanks

They work quite well, but the engine needs to be at operating temperature for it to be effective otherwise it takes for ever .It can't be used on all cars as the diptick hole does not go to the lowest part of the sump.It is the only way to drain the oil on a smart car, there is no drain plug.

Used one on my boat for years. Worked well and no mess.

I don't know about the European or Canadian Smarts, but the ones imported into the US do indeed have a drain plug.

Used to be a shop tool for Mercedes dealers a couple of decades ago...

I use one for changing oil in the mowers and other lawn equipment. Not messy and works very well with warm oil.

Man getting a mouth full of gas is bad enough when your siphoning I can't imagine getting a mouth full of oil. It's going to take one heck of a mint to make that better. :jester:

I've had one for over 10 years and I use it all the time for more than just changing the oil. I bought mine from Griots Garage and it has worked flawlessly up until I broke the handle a couple weeks ago. But in addition to a very impressive product, I was recently equally surprised by the fantastic customer service. Here is my email thread (start at the bottom email and work up):

Hello Dominic,

Thank you for your e-mail and your continued interest in Griot's Garage. I am sorry to hear that your Multi Fluid Extractor is broken. Sadly at this time we do not have any replacement parts for this unit. However, we would be glad to exchange this unit for a brand new one, if you so choose. If you would like to do this, simply e-mail me your billing address information and I will have a new one shipped to you. Once you receive the new one, use that box to ship the old one back in.

Dominic, I hope you found this helpful. Thank you again for your e-mail. If you have any more questions please feel free to respond to this email or call our Customer Service Department during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 6am-6pm PST and Saturday 7am-3:30pm PST.

Have fun in your garage!

Subject: replacement handle for Multi Fluid Extractor

- Hide quoted text -
Hello,
I have owned your Multi Fluid Extractor (Item 10115) for about 10 years. It has served me very well, except that recently I broke the handle used for pumping and extraction. Do you happen to sell a replacement handle? Also do you sell a replacement set of extraction tubes. Mine are starting to get warn out after 10 years.

Thanks for a great product. You have no idea how much I use this extractor.

Regards,
Dominic Uliano
