MGB Oil change question

O.K. I changed my oil this weekend, and everything went great, until time to take off the inverted oil filter. There has to be a less Vadezish way. I had oil everywhere, thankfully, I did have my drip pan still underneath, but it went all down the side of the block, sump ect.

Are you using the original canister/replacable element style filter or a normal spin-on? The spin-on makes slightly "less" disaster because its quicker to get off and flip over, but neither are exactly drip-free. An old antifreeze jug with one side cut out to make a shallow pan (with the original lid opening at the bottom) can help contain it so its not all over the block/crossmember/floor/whatever.
