Oil between MIN and MAX

Hi all,

well I am new to this forum, as well as in owning an Healey.
This brings me to many questions (perhaps stupid ones, but hey... we all have to start somewhere), I hope to find an answer to here.
I had a question concerning the amount of oil to add between the MIN and MAX in the BJ8 engine. I always have to guess how much to add, start engine in order to "mix" the old and new oil and recheck if the level is high enough (but not too close to the MAX).
Does anybody know how many liters or pints (US pints!?) are between the MIN and MAX?
Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the forum. I cant' give you the exact answer but if it is at min, add 1 qt and it will be good. It will be just short of the max mark.

As long as it is over min don't worry about it too much, these motors have relatively huge oil capacities compared to the 4 quarts held by most modern cars, plenty of reserve to lubricate and cool the motor.

Thanks for your advice! Just for my understanding, a quart is 1/4 US-gallon, right? So basically 0,9 Liters.

The BJ8 takes 7 US quarts.

4 US quarts to 1 US gallon.
2 US pints = 1 US quart
1 metric liter = 1 US quart

Better not to over fill or you will need cat litter. Sort of self adjusting. My BJ8 is best at half way between and the rest in the boot for refills.
