This is probably a really dumb question. But, sometimes I need a reality check.

Bentley Manual says 13.2 pints for dry sump with filter change. That's 6.6 quarts.

Just wondering how much oil most people add for a typical oil & filter change and if my dipstick is off. Normally, I just go with 6 quarts.

PS: the difference between the lower and upper marks on the dipstick appears to be 2 full quarts. Can anyone confirm?
 
It does take a lot of oil -- 6.6 qts sounds close, I'm thinking I use more.

Of course when looking at any manual you need to figure out whether they are talking about Imperial (UK) pints or US pints -- their pints are bigger.

Yes, 2 qts from 'add' to 'full' sounds right. I usually run it with the oil about 1/2 way up.

The condition of the felt seal on the dipstick with also make a big difference as a new seal is about a quarter inch thick whereas a really old seal may be smooshed down to almost nothing (or even missing).
 
I use 6 (US) quarts for a change (including spin-on filter), as 7 seems to overfill. The book gives 4 Imperial pints as the distance between the marks, which seems about right.
