Hi guys, my 60 BT7 usually starts right up. I'm really looking forward to this season, since the ole' Healey Monster seems to be running excellent. However, every once in a while I turn the key, push the button and I get absolutely nothing. No cranking at all. It usually occurs when I am away from home and threfore, the car is warmed up. Of course my first thoughts are "did I remember my cell phone." I never take the Healey out without my cell phone. Does anyone remember those pre-cell phone days when another British car driver would never pass another if they were seemingly broken down on the side of the road? But I digress, as I said the starter does not turn at all - no sound - then all of a sudden it will suddenly start right up. Sounds electrical to me. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bill L
PS - aside from the cell phone, I always make sure I have that trusty tow strap. My wife doesn't like towing me, but I remind her of those good ole days when we were first married...

go to the thread that Dave suggested...and also:

Don't "big" Healeys have an "anti-theft" switch behind the seat? Seems to me, these go bad (or have poor connections) and can cause this type of problem.

...or, if your starter has a "dead spot" on it, tapping it on the side with a small hammer will often get it to spin.

OK I'll try to be clear. Sometimes, it seems to be when the car is warmed up, the car does not crank when I try to start it. I push the starter button and I get nothing, then all of a sudden (after what seems like a number of seconds) it will start to crank and then start up.
Thanks, Bill

OK, I'll try to be clear also. What have you done so far to troubleshoot the problem? Can't help you much without some cooperation. It sounds like there is a bad (high resistance) connection somewhere that expands as it heats up & gets tighter. Takes a few seconds to heat up & expand to make full contact. Just a guess at this time.

You may want to check out this post, Henri was having similiar symptoms, https://www.britishcarforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000799

About the anti theft thing.(really anti electrical fire system) BMC used to advertise that you could turn off the battery switch located in the trunk (Cuts the main 12VDC as well as ground the coil)and lock the trunk, opps! boot, sorry. Doesn't slow the bad guys with the roll back, but gives the hotwire guys a fit.
