Oh come now pe-pole! Forum tutorial CD?

I think I've clicked "no" twice... But maybe it was just the one time... I think it's nearly impossible to try and tell someone a thousand miles away (someone who has problems with computers anyway, but can still get here, and post messages) how to do something specific... Like post a picture.... But maybe I'm just tainted from trying it myself with a few 'puter illiterate dolts.

I say we take 'em on one on one. As they come along. If they found their way here... and can learn hoe to post a message... I think it's not a far cry from telling them how to post pics.

And if they forget their passwords or screenames... They weren't planning on staying anyway.

Just my 2¢ worth.

Bas,

Good idea if you can make them easily accessible from the website under the FAQ section. Not so great if someone needs to send $$ and wait for a CD in the mail. If bandwidth is the problem then written instructions with marked up screen shots can convey the same info in less space. You could also set up a "how do I use the forum" forum for letting people ask questions about how to do stuff. There are plenty of us who will try to help them out.

Cheers,
John

I be one of those "dolts", but don't think I would gain much from a CD. Specially since it won't run on my illiterate computer.

Well, since I already own the software it’s not a question of spending a lot of money. I appreciate all the feedback. The results seem to be pretty mixed. I may make the CDs, and if people want to support the forum by perhaps buying a forum car badge, for example, I can just include a complimentary CD as part of the deal. If it’s useful for that person that’s great, but if not it’s no big deal. – they can use it as a drink coaster /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I thought of this idea after spending a lot of time on the phone (on more than one occasion) walking members through how to do things like post pictures in a message on the forum. It occurred to me that an audio-video CD would be a good way to explain some of these things and also show members some of the features of the forum that many members, even old-timers, probably are not even aware exist.
