The Fords, to meet emissions requirements in the late great state of.....were fitted with SU two barrel carbs...or Variable Venturi. At the dealership, since I knew how to work on SU's, I was the only guy who could get them to function.
Actually, closer to a 2-barrel Stromberg, as they had this red silicone diaphragm in the back.
We'd yank them off and put stock Motorcraft 2100's on them. Bolted right up. You never knew when one of those diaphragms was gonna let go in the middle of nowhere.
That was the "electronic" carbs.
General Misunderstanding had gawdawful ones...I still have all the measuring sticks, wire gauges, level set, tools to adjust stops and height. NASTY things, they were.
