Does anyone know what was the latest year that Ford made an F-250 4WD pickup that still had a carb and no computer electronic junk on it? We need a truck that we can work on ourselves. Thanks.

Off topic? This is the Pub LOL! You might try calling a dealer. Their maintenance dept. could probably tell you.
 
The first EFI Ford F150 5.0 truck was 1986. Other F250 and larger trucks (and vans) optionally continued using carburetors up into the 1990's.
You could say 1985 was a carburetor year and 1986 was when Ford really started changing to EFI. Even though it varied a lot among the car lines and there were some EFI Fords in the years before 1986.

I read Crown Vics could have had carbs into the 90's.

85/86, we always considered the changeover. Yet, I recall an Escort of 1987 with a carb.
 
I'd actually go back a few years to 1975/79, I know people who swear by Ford pickups from that era and still use them as work trucks even... My general impression is that the pickups made after 1980 through the mid-80's aren't considered to be as good... Just my thoughts on the matter, and I'm no expert... :smirk:

If not back further starting in '67. Not that the earlier trucks were bad, just more likey to get newer one in better shape.
 
Remember, 80s carbs were of the electronic feedback type. An easy fix with a replacement, unless local laws don't allow for a swap to a different type. The older you go the less emissions equipment you have to deal with.
80s fords were fine otherwise.

I don't remember feedback carbs on Fords. I remember that VV crap but not feedback.
 
When I was in high school I used to drive my older brother's '86 F-150 4wd/6cyl. One of my favorite vehicles of all time. That was the last year Ford made a good looking truck IMHO. Bro' still has it BTW.
 
The Fords, to meet emissions requirements in the late great state of.....were fitted with SU two barrel carbs...or Variable Venturi. At the dealership, since I knew how to work on SU's, I was the only guy who could get them to function.
Actually, closer to a 2-barrel Stromberg, as they had this red silicone diaphragm in the back.
We'd yank them off and put stock Motorcraft 2100's on them. Bolted right up. You never knew when one of those diaphragms was gonna let go in the middle of nowhere.
That was the "electronic" carbs.

General Misunderstanding had gawdawful ones...I still have all the measuring sticks, wire gauges, level set, tools to adjust stops and height. NASTY things, they were.
 
I have an 89 Chevy with a 454 in it and it was the last year for a carburetor, 90 had throttle body fuel injection, as my 93. Throttle body fuel injection is not hard to work on, everything set on top of the engine like a carburetor, easy to change and easier than a carb to work on. I'm assuming Ford had the same trend and possibly ended carburetors around the same time. Only drawback is, the internal tank fuel pumps are very expensive if a replacement is needed. PJ

Paid $45 for my in-tank pump on my '89 (4.3)
 
check Rock auto prices,Chevy pumps start at $19.10 and go up to $197.30 for complete in tank unit.
Just put a Rock Auto AC Delphi complete unit in my 95 Astro $168.00 IIRC.
