TR2/3/3A Odometer trip meter?

When I pull down the trip meter knob and attempt to turn it I get a slight movement of the four digits moving altogether and then it jams. Can the back of the speedo be taken off and the mechanism freed up and lightly lubricated? I don't want to risk taking everything apart. Thought there might be a simple fix?

The unit comes part from the front not the back. Take the chrome ring and glass off the front. And you will need to remove the extension part of the trip meter to get the unit to drop out the front. You should be able to see the gears inside and hopefully what is causing the problem. But there is not much lubication in there that I have seen.

The trip odo is a series of number wheels with friction discs between them. As the grease dries out, movement tends to jam...much as you are describing. You could try using a degreaser on the wheels after you get to them by opening the case...but the number tapes could easily be discolored if you are not careful. It would be best to dis-assemble the wheels to clean and re-lube them, but that is a rather large job.

If you don't want to tackle it, Nisonger or others will rebuild and calibrate the speedo...at a rather stiff price.

Try pushing up on it rather than pulling down.
