odd question - thermostat

was going to install the thermostat & housing last night and glue down gasket & torque bolts. then I began to wonder whether or not the rad was filled through the brass bolt and whether the thermostat interferes with the flow of rad fluid into the rad and therefore whether I should wait to pin it all down till it's installed & the rad is filled. thoughts?
 
most likely makes no difference, but i usually install the stat as one of the last things i do after i have filled the block and rad. I just think it is easier to make less of a mess when the freeze can flow easily without having to run around the t-stat.

I'm with both Mark and Morris on this one, JP. I find it easier to fill it first and install the stat. I wouldn't glue the gasket down, though. It could make it nearly impossible to remove the housing later. (And you will.)
But, as Morris says, we must be getting close to the "Vrooom" post, eh?

I have heard of some whom have drilled 1 to 4 3/16" holes through the thermostat plate to help speed the filling process. This may be more of a racing thing. Dont remember where I heard it and never tried myself. Maybe someone who can verify will chime in.

Not even close to the vroom post. As they say in the lonely hearts club - I have no-body /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cryin.gif Waiting on my body guy to come through

- at this point -
engine - done
rear axle/ brakes - done
front suspension/ brakes - done
steering rack - done

dash - almost done

need to
carpet
get top
redo or replace rad
refinish wheels

but basically, I have this body shell in primer that needs some work & paint and then it can start back together - not this year but definetely next spring /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

well, not that I've given it any thought /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif but

I really want to do something that is a little more challenging and is not a convertible. I have a soft spot for external fenders, so, here is my (sort of) short list.

(disclaimer - everything always subject to change)

1. Triumph Mayflower - Current top of the list - just saw it in a "worst cars in the world book" - which is reason enough

2. MG Magnette - sport sedan - need I say more (and then I have an MG stable)

3. Wild card - there is a VDP princess parked (inside) about an hour away - has been there (for sale) for a decade - he wants too much but might be ready to deal - and it could be an original car with original patina and a very sympathetic renewal - down side - it may not fit in my garage.

4. dream car - Lagonda Tickford Coupe. I'm trying to locate this one - had a Volvo engine - I'm thinking XJ6 - https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/369912#Post369912

as you have no doubt discerned - I am looking for something unique. Ms. Triss will always be beautiful - but one of dozens - I'd like something a little different - would also consider early Jag/ Rover/ Armstrong Siddeley/ Daimler etc.

Princess gets my vote, go get her!
There's a blue 1300 VDP down the street from me for sale (also a '63 Wolesey), but it is not going to happen, just a dream.
Be nice to see a Princess go to a good home though, I think you'd be a perfect match JP, you have tatse.

Those are big cars and take up a huge amount of space. I have 2.5L Riley that I work on in my spare time as soon as I get a bit more room the fenders are going to be taken off.

Today is a Abarth day just came in for a coffee break.
