This is a good one - and yes, I feel like a moron.
I'm in the process of putting my car back together after a paint job. I painted the doors, bonnet, and boot seperate from the car and I'm putting them back on.
Last night I got someone to come over and help me. He held up the bonnet and boot while I installed the bolts on the respective brackets.
After I installed the boot, I released it closed to check the fit. The boot 'countersunk' and now I can't open it. It is hard to describe, but when I try to open it, the back of the boot cover catches on the rear deck and I cannot open the boot. I've tried lifting the back of the boot cover by sticking things between the boot cover and rear deck and prying it open, but I don't want to pry to hard because I might damage the paint.
I figure that the problem occurred because I took the old boot lid seal off before painting and did not install the new seal. With the new seal installed, the boot may have sat on the seal and been at the correct height to open and close it.
Tonight, I will try to go in from the cockpit (over the gas tank) to the boot cover brackets and loosen them. I tried reaching in from the cockpit last night and push up on the back of the boot cover, but it wouldn't budge.
Anyway, if you have other ideas please let me know.
