Can anyone tell me what 'fair market value' would be for my A-Type OD transmission if I were to put it up for sale? Just considering options at this point.

Raymond, Ebay is a good indicator and they run from $800 to $1200 for a good working OD. Wayne
 
Most want to get the gearbox and the O/D all together. To convert a normal 4-speed box to attach the O/D costs a fortune as it means getting a new main shaft to accept the overdrive and this means a full re-build of the 4-speed box while it's all out. I was in San Jose in 1988 at Triumphs Only where they wanted $2000 for the combined gearbox and overdrive.
 
Thanks for the feedback - my employer has eBay blocked and most of the time I don't feel like fighting the kids to use the computer at home. Guess I should have been a little more precise - I meant a complete transmission/overdrive, not just the overdrive unit itself. I've had it checked out by the local LBC guru and he says it's in excellent shape.
 
Again, ebay is likely the best indicator of fair market price. A full overdrive transmission (A or J) goes for $800-$1500 depending upon condition, rebuild etc.

While buying a complete od tranny is an easy way to upgrade there are those of us that have converted our non od transmission by going to ebay, buying an od unit and then picking up the required parts to make the conversion.
 
Good example: full A type overdrive transmission from an early TR6 sold for $995 yesterday on ebay..
 
Hi: Ebay will tell you what value any triumph part has. I say that because what folks are willing to pay on ebay tends to set the value. Hemmings motor newas will also give you some sort of idea. You need to do the research, if you want to get top value. Remember that Ebay is an auction, Start low and people will bid on it and will raise the value. I have been buying and selling on ebay since the early 2000's. Yet to get hurt. I always open with a 3 dollar open bid and let the market tell me what it is worth.
