OD trans swap

On a scale of 1 to 10, how big of a pain is it to make a 4 speed to a 4 speed with OD swap?
The 4 speed is working fine in my 77 MGB, it just seems to be more comfortable running along at 60 mph rather than 70 mph (or a bit higher).

On the same line, what is the acceptable highway cruise rpm/speed for a "B" in good condition?
Thanks again,
Ray

Ray, I have just converted my 78 MGB to an OD unit and am very pleased with it. I can tell you all about it. I am in Huntsville, Give me a call during business hours at 535 0703.

Changing transmissions is as easy as pulling the engine/transmission out and replacing with a new OD unit. It is not possible to convert a non OD transmission to a OD transmission without replacing the main shaft in the trany. Just change entire transmission and you are set. You should try to find a OD transmission with a side fill plug. Those units are 1000 tpm and will match you speedo. You will need a longer speedo cable also. The driveshafts are the same as are the transmission mounts. The wiring may be already in your car. Go for it.

Ray - piece of cake...you don't even need to change out your driveshaft - just push the yoke all way in & connect to the OD tranny....pull engine/tranny...separate engine from tranny...mate up new tranny...install engine/OD tranny....about only thing to worry about is switch & that also is just a matter of 2 wires (& your original harness is already prepped for the OD)

Thanks All,
All I need to do now is to find a OD tranny within driving distance at a semi-reasonable price!

Yep, chuck, I'm about 30 minutes away but don't have a spare right now...who knows, maybe next week!
