tried to search this problem, but didnt see anything on the form. while driving down the freeway with od, it will turn off on its own, sometimes three or four times in a minute. sometimes once every 10 min. anybody have any ideas?
oh, its a bj8

I'd start with checking the switch, electrical connections and solenoid. Make sure they're clean, no broken wire or shorts and functioning. If that doesn't handle it the problem is probably internal with the pump or blocked oil passages or other failing components. I'd guess however you're more likely to have an intermittant electricl fault than an internal physical one.

Most likely the ball switch on the side of the gear lever is not staying closed when in 3rd or 4th. Just put a little pressure to the right on the lever which puts more pressure on the switch. If it stays in with your hand on the shift lever, that's the problem. Removing a fiber washer from the base of the switch can sometimes add some pressure, or you may need a new switch. Tunnel must come off, Good luck, Bob

I had the same problem and the same solution on my 100. Except the switch tested fine for continuity with the car sitting, so I ended up pulling the tunnel and messing with everything else for a weekend or two before I found the loose wire on the dash switch. That was fun. Glad your fix was a little quicker.
